Through our commitment to 1% for the Planet, we support local associations that make a real difference in our mountain environment. One of these is ECOTRIVELO, based in Chamonix. They recently shared their 2025 activity report, and the progress they are making with local waste is impressive.
What is ECOTRIVELO?
ECOTRIVELO is an association dedicated to reducing waste in the Chamonix Valley. They focus on biodéchets (organic waste). Instead of sending this waste to be incinerated, they collect it and turn it into compost.
They use a “low-tech” approach. Much of their collection is done using bicycles with trailers. This keeps the process quiet and carbon-neutral.

2025 in Numbers
The association grew significantly last year. Here are the key figures from their report:
- 82 tonnes of organic waste collected and composted.
- 7,350 km travelled by bike to make these collections.
- 43 professional partners, including restaurants like Hôtel l’Alpina and La Maison Carrier, now use their services.
- 9 tonnes were composted directly on-site at various establishments.

More Than Just Collection
ECOTRIVELO does more than just move waste. They are working to change how people think about dirt.
- Education: They held 15 sensibilisation (awareness) sessions for schools and businesses.
- Culture: They launched ECOTRIP, a comedy show about composting, to reach a wider audience through humor.
- Circular Economy: The “ripe” compost is redistributed to local gardeners. In 2025, they even started a bicycle delivery service for the compost.
Looking Forward to 2026
The association has big plans for the coming year. They want to support a new organic market garden (maraîchage bio) in the valley by providing high-quality compost. They are also helping a similar association start up in the neighboring Pays du Mont-Blanc area.
We are proud to see our 1% for the Planet contributions helping ECOTRIVELO grow. They are proving that professional waste management can be local, simple, and effective.
